Nothing Ear 1 – Powerful Budget TWS
With all the hype Nothing had created, Carl Pei’s London-based venture has finally launched the Nothing Ear 1 on 27th July 2021. After leaving OnePlus, Carl Pei restarted his journey with Nothing. Big names like Steve Huffman, Kevin Lin, Casey Neistat were some of the first investors in his project. He launched Nothing with the motive to remove barriers between people and technology. We can easily see this in Nothing Ear 1.
Build and Design
Nothing Ear 1 is the first product launched by the London-based venture. Ear 1 comes with a transparent design. We aren’t only talking about the case but also the build of the TWS.
If you look at the buds closely, you can see the sensors, pins, indicators and many more. The buds are a pair of in-ear style earphones with silicon tips, bundled in three sizes. Its transparent design has caught everyone’s attention and is making it look different from its competitors. But the question is how true it is? What if we color the buds white or black? Will it still look different? I highly doubt it.
But if you are planning to show off your earphones, I guess this one will do the job.
They are light way and comfortable to wear. These in-ear buds fit in the ears pretty well and won’t fall when you exercise or jog.
If we take a look at the case, it is no different than the buds themselves. You are getting a transparent case with texts in a unique font. The slots are magnetic and are pretty strong, so you can be assured that your buds won’t fall out. You get a small indicator for knowing the battery status. On the side, you are a type-C port for charging.
Nothing Ear 1 Features
The Ear 1 comes with an 11.6mm driver, and the sound is tuned by Teenage Engineering, one of the most reputed audio companies. It supports Bluetooth codec AAC and SBC with Hybrid Audio Noise Cancellation(ANC). It also comes with Bluetooth 5.2 support.
The buds are in-ear style, and you can feel the passive noise cancellation while putting them in. They also have in-ear detection for pairing the device or playing/pausing the media.
If we talk about controls, you are getting a touch screen for that. For example, you can double-tap to play or pause and thrice for skipping the song. You can change these settings in the Ear 1 app, which is available on iOS and Android. Here you can change the settings according to your will, though the options are limited. You get four equalisers preset but no custom EQ settings and two modes for ANC. Here you can even check your battery status for the buds and the case.
Battery and Charging
If we talk about battery, the company claims that you can get up to 5.7hrs of playtime with ANC off and 4hrs with ANC on. If you count the case in, you can make it work for 24hrs with ANC on and 34hrs with ANC off. You are getting a type-C cable bundled in for charging the case. The case also supports Qi Wireless charging.
There are three high definition microphones in total in this device, along with AI-Powered Environmental Noise Cancellation. Nothing Ear 1 is IPX4 slash-proof, so you can enjoy your workout session with tons of sweat without worrying about the buds. You can even use a single bud at a time.
